KPK Readies for 2nd ACWG Meeting, Four Anti-Corruption Issues to be Discussed

Jakarta, July 2, 2022 – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will resume the discussion on four priority issues brought up by the Indonesian Presidency in the second round of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group (ACWG). The meeting, which will be attended by 20 delegates from participating countries, is set to be held from July 5 to 8, 2022 in Nusa Dua, Bali.

According to the Deputy for Information and Data of the KPK as Chair of ACWG, Mochamad Hadiyana, the four priority issues include increasing the role of audit in corruption eradication, public participation and anti-corruption education, regulatory framework and oversight of the role of the legal profession in money laundering of proceeds of corruption, and corruption eradication in the renewable energy sector.

“In the first round, all delegates expressed their support for the four priority issues brought up by Indonesia. Next, we will resume the discussion in a more elaborative manner with the delegates in the second round,” said Hadiyana.

The issue of the role of audit in corruption eradication, in particular, will be detailly included in the High Level Principle (HLP). Later, this issue will serve as a binding policy document which requires its implementation in the future. While the other three issues will be covered in the summary or compendium.

The KPK hopes that in in this second meeting all delegates can exchange thoughts and ideas to achieve constructive conclusions on efforts to improve global corruption eradication. “Hopefully the results of the discussion will have a positive impact on corruption prevention and eradication efforts at the domestic, regional, and global levels,” he said.

To add more views to the discussion on anti-corruption issues, the 2nd G20 ACWG meeting will also involve Engagement Groups including the B20, C20, T20, L20, and P20. The discussion will also involve various international organizations that focus on anti-corruption issues.

With the theme raised by Indonesia’s G20 Presidency “Recover Together Recover Stronger”, the first round of ACWG meeting was held from March 28 to 31, 2022 and was attended virtually by all delegates. This meeting serves an opportunity for the KPK as Chair of the ACWG to make a real contribution to corruption eradication efforts, which eventually support global economic improvement towards the realization of an advanced, prosperous, and corruption-free society.
